Published by Business Insider on Wed, 15 Feb 2017

LONDON ' The Twitter tantrum between JK Rowling and Piers Morgan is a feud of Harry Potter vs Lord Voldemort proportions, but the author appeared to gain the upper hand on Tuesday.Rowling laid a cunning trap for Morgan, by innocently tweeting what appeared to be Valentines' message from one of her fans. She wrote:Just been sent this! Could the writer let me know who he is' I'd love to thank him! #Valentines pic.twitter.com/OQtbxPD6AL' J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) February 14, 2017Morgan was in no mood to let his feud with Rowling rest. He picked up the message 30 minutes later, quipping:Priceless #humblebrag BS. Nobody plays the celebrity game more abusively or ruthlessly than you, Ms 'Intensely Private Billionaire'. https://t.co/5ysnfefa3d' Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 14, 2017It appeared, however, that Morganstepped straight on Rowling's landmine. The touching message from her fan was, in fact, Morgan's own words. The former Daily Mirror editor had written glowingly about the author in a Daily Mail column in 2010, headlined: "The 100 British celebrities who really matter by Piers Morgan."This fact was pointed out by BuzzFeed's Scotland reporter Jamie Ross:Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. He doesn't realise. This is the best day of my life. pic.twitter.com/fl0lFPHXf5' Jamie Ross (@JamieRoss7) February 14, 2017But Morgan claimed he was in on the joke the whole time:Relax, quarter-wit, I knew what it was. Just surprised I put her as high as 97th. https://t.co/HCzx4Ius4E' Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 14, 2017Morgan then went on to Tweet a YouGov opinion poll which showed that the "British public vastly prefers JK Rowling (55%) to Piers Morgan (9%)."In a reference to his friend President Donald Trump's US election victory, he joked: "Who wants to win the popular vote these days, anyway'"Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: Marriott's CEO travels 200 days a year ' these are his favorite travel hacks
