McDonald's might be launching a home delivery service in UK

McDonald's has hinted it could begin delivering food to homes in the UK and its four other biggest markets around the world.The fast food giant already runs delivery services in China and Singapore but is now aiming to become the 'global leader in delivery'.Announcing growth plans, the chain hinted that its five biggest markets are next in line to get Big Macs and Happy Meals straight to the doorstep. These are the UK, US, France, Germany and Canada.McDonald's added that in those five markets, nearly 75 per cent of the population lives within three miles of a branch.The statement said: 'One of the most significant disruptions in the restaurant business today is the rapid increase in delivery. Through technology, delivery has changed the way customers order, pay, track and receive food and provide feedback.'Coupled with the explosive growth in third-party delivery companies, the landscape has created an exceptional opportunity for growth.'Because of our extraordinary footprint, McDonald's is uniquely positioned to become the global leader in delivery.'The major plans follow a disappointing period for the chain, which has reportedly lost more than 500 million customers since 2012.It is also testing an app which will allow users to order and pay on their smartphones in 20,000 American restaurants.Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: People are obsessed with this convenience store that's only in 6 states
