Gunmen Kill 10 In Benue

Ten persons have been reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in two communities of Katisna-Ala and Ukum local government areas of Benue State.LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that five persons were on Wednesday night killed after some armed men invaded some settlements in Mbayongo District of Katsina-Ala while another five persons were also killed on Thursday night in Ayati Village, Ukum, by gunmen.In the Katsina-Ala killing, sources revealed to LEADERSHIP Weekend that none of the deceased victims had gun shots marks on their bodies but only rashes suggesting that they must have been beaten to death by their assailants in their homes.Our correspondent gathered that three of the persons killed were from Nagu settlement, one at Tse Gyudu and another victim at Tse Weryina settlement which are smaller adjoining villages to Gbishe Ako.For the Ukum killing yesterday night, sources said some gunmen who rode on mortocycles stormed the village at about 8pm and positioned themselves strategically before shooting sporadically at anyone in sight.But, speaking to Leadership on the ground of anonymity, a prominent politician from Ukum Ayati village disclosed that a woman who was going for a funeral wake was hit by stray bullet and died while four other men were also shot dead by the yet to be identified gunmen.According to him, several other persons sustained various degrees of injury from a strayed bullets and were rushed to undisclosed hospitals for treatment while the remains of the dead had been deposited at morgue of the General hospital in the area.Our anonymous source said police were immediately informed of the sad development and had moved to the area but was not sure if anyone had been arrested in connection with the killings.He wondered why brothers would turn against themselves when farmers were being killed daily by Fulanis, and urged traditional rulers in the area to fish out the bad boys with a view to finding a lasting solution to the killings.Why should we be killing ourselves when Fulanis are also killing us' Traditional rulers cannot claim not to know those responsible because they are among us
