WWE WrestleMania 33 Matches: Match Card, Most Likely Heel and Face Turns at PPV

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 29 Mar 2017

Just because the builds for WWE WrestleMania 33's big rivalries have been months in the making doesn't mean there won't be some unexpected face and heel turns. In fact, the prestige and spectacle of the show make it all the more likely for some stars. While most of the event's big talking points will roll over into the following night and the traditionally combustable environment of "WrestleMania Monday," as in the Raw after Mania, Sunday night will offer fans a few flashpoints of note also. Here's a look at the gargantuan-sized card, as well as a look at the most likely candidates to turn on the night.Match Card2017 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal (pre-show)Alexa Bliss (champion) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Natalya vs. Mickie James vs. Carmella vs. Naomi (WWE SmackDown Women's Championship, pre-show)Neville (c) vs. Austin Aries (Cruiserweight Championship, pre-show)Luke Gallows (c) and Karl Anderson vs. Sheamus and Cesaro vs. Enzo and Cass (WWE Raw Tag Team Championships)John Cena and Nikki Bella vs. The Miz and MaryseBayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax (WWE Raw Women's Championship)Chris Jericho (c) vs. Kevin Owens (WWE United States Championship)Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Baron Corbin (WWE Intercontinental Championship)Seth Rollins vs. Triple HShane McMahon vs. AJ StylesThe Undertaker vs. Roman ReignsBray Wyatt (c) vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship)Goldberg (c) vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE Universal Championship)Heel Turn: Roman ReignsMake no mistake about it, of all the least likely swerves at WrestleMania 33, Roman Reigns turning heel is right near the top. That doesn't mean it's the least sensiblein fact, Reigns turning heel makes a whole lot of sense to so many people. But WWE perhaps doesn't feel the sameotherwise it may have happened by now.The fact so many fans are against him makes this Sunday's match against a legend of the company in The Undertaker the perfect opportunity to do it. Reigns is becoming more and more hostile on the microphone, hinting that something could happen. And if he goes over Takerwhich, and this might be controversial, he shouldhe can do it in such a manner that makes him truly hated for all the right reasons. Have Reigns cheat to win and pin a second loss on Taker's WrestleMania career.Doing it clean isn't the way here. It's not right. Reigns has to see off The Deadman by any means possible to cement himself as perhaps the biggest heel in WWE. It's been mentioned a lot, but rightly soturning The Rock heel when the crowd genuinely disliked him was his first step to stardom. It's a path WWE should emulate this Sunday.Heel Turn: Sasha BanksWith the nature of the Raw Women's Championship title match this Sunday, it's possible Sasha Banks may not even be around to see the final bell. But don't bank on that being the casebecause smart booking sense sees Bayley retaining at the expense of Sasha before she goes on a tear post-match and turns heel.Bayley vs. Banks has happened before in NXT, and it was pretty sensational. So the prospect of them running through to SummerSlam with the strap is a great ideabut Banks has to be heel.In many ways, Sasha is at her best as the vindictive, crafty heel who always gets what she wants. Having her turn on her best friend at the biggest pay-per-view of the year would catapult this heel turn off to a great start.Double Turn: Bray Wyatt and Randy OrtonIt's a long shot, but it's one that doesn't seem so impossible when you think about it in closer detail.WWE has a history with the double turn at WrestleMania, as Steve Austin and Bret Hart fans will know too well.It takes the perfect mixture of fan reaction, a superb match and intricate storytelling to do it properlybut you feel like it could genuinely happen in Sunday's WWE Championship match. For starters, is Randy Orton really supposed to be the babyface here' Come on. He burned down Bray Wyatt's compound, and the whole world knows that Randy as a heel is booking brilliance. He can be manipulative, dangerous and unhinged.Plus, Bray as a babyface can just work on so many levels. You only had to see the reaction WWE fans gave him when he won the strap at Elimination Chamber.Have them battle for 25 to 30 minutes in an absolute classic, maybe even as the match that steals the entire show. But then, have Orton sneak a victory against all the oddshe'll cheat his way to the WWE Championship. Who knows, maybe he'll even end up creating an alternative Wyatt Family with Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, and Randy as the patriarch. It suddenly turns the tables on Bray, makes him the underdog in pursuit of revenge and creates Bray the babyface. He's so popular and so deceptively impressive in the ring that the story writes itself. It could work. But it has to be done right. There'll be no blood-stained mat like there was when Austin passed out on the canvas at WrestleMania 13. But it's still possible.Heel Turn: Finn BalorThis one is a huge, huge risk that is almost off the scalebut there are so many tempting benefits to pulling the trigger on turning Finn Balor heel.Let's run through them. First of all, you create the prospect of Balor ClubFinn himself, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, maybe even a female in there. Sasha Banks in Balor Club, perhaps'His links with Triple H run deep, and that's an obvious alliance. Balor heading up a new muscle group featuring himself, HHH, Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens is eye-wateringly exciting on the face of it.And Finn has history with Seth Rollinswhich is where he comes into play on Sunday. Having him be the one who screws Seth not only reignites Rollins vs. Balor, which was clearly the plan before Finn got injured, but it does so in a completely different manner to before.Suddenly, the tables are turned with Finn the heel and Seth the babyface. It gives it a fresh dynamic, even though it's the same two guys feuding. But all this means HHH goes over Seth Rollins on Sunday when it really matters. Is that, to paraphrase the man himself, really best for business
