Former KSU Basketball Player DJ Johnson to Try out with Chicago Bears as TE

Kansas State forward D.J. Johnson will be the latest college basketball player to try his hand in the NFL.According to Kellis Robinett of the Kansas City Star, the Chicago Bears have approached the 6'9", 237-pound athlete for a tryout.Johnson averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game his senior season with the Wildcats, helping the squad reach the round of 64 in the NCAA tournament.Per hisschool bio, he was an all-conference football player at Parkway North High School in St. Louis, playing tight end and defensive end.The Bears will try to use him at tight end, where former college basketball players like Tony Gonzalez, Jimmy Graham and Antonio Gates have excelled in the NFL.Baylor's Rico Gathers was the most recent full-time basketball player to make the transition to football and was selected in the sixth round last year by the Dallas Cowboys.For more news, rumors and related stories about the Chicago Bears and the NFL,check out the NFL and Bearsstreams onBleacher Report's app.
