Florida QB Kyle Trask to Miss 4 Weeks After Surgery to Repair Knee Injury

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 13 Apr 2017

University of Florida quarterback Kyle Trask underwent knee surgery Wednesday after playing in the Gators' spring game last week. He's projected to make a complete recovery in a month.Jordan Sherit of the Associated Press confirmed the procedure and the estimated timetable.Nick de la Torreof Gator Country reported Trask suffered a torn meniscus "approximately two weeks ago" and played through the ailment in the spring game. His source provided a four-to-six week timeline on the quarterback's rehab process, but the QB's status for fall camp is currently not in question. The injury helps shed some light on Trask's struggles in the Orange and Blue Game. He connected on just six of his 15 attempts for 66 yards in the contest. He also had an interception.Afterward, he didn't mention the health issue while he seemingly fell behind Feleipe Franks in the competition to become the Gators' starter, perRyan Youngof SEC Country."I think just keeping my head low and just keep grinding," Trask said. "It's going to be a dogfight until the very end. So all I've got to do is keep working my tail off."Robbie Andreuof GatorSports.com noted Florida head coach Jim McElwain said even before the spring game that there was separation in the race for the job, adding the situation is "starting to sort itself out."All signs point to Franks taking the lead. Add in the injury and Trask will need a standout showing during fall camp to take over command of the offense before the regular season gets underway Sept. 2 with a marquee clash against Michigan. For more news, rumors and related stories about Kyle Trask, the Florida Gators and college football, check out the college football and Florida streams on Bleacher Report's app.
