Coming off the high of last week, the PGA Tour moved to South Carolina for the 2017 RBC Heritage with Bud Cauley taking the first-round lead by two shots with an eight-under par 63.Many of the top stars have taken the weekend off, including 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia, opening the door for under-the-radar players to get a victory if they can put together 72 holes of strong golf. Here's the full leaderboard from Hilton Head that's chasing Cauley after Thursday:Cauley was consistent throughout his round with four birdies on the front nine, four more on the back nine and no bogeys. He closed in brilliant fashion, with four birdies over the final five holes to take a two-shot lead over Luke Donald and Graham DeLaet, as the PGA Tour showed:Per Eric Boynton of theSpartanburg Herald-Journal, Cauley is in a position to do something he's never done in his PGA Tour career:This is an excellent turnaround for Cauley, who came into the RBC Heritage having missed the cut at his past two PGA Tour events. He's still got a lot of work to do in order to earn his first win of any kind since 2014 on the Web.com Tour.DeLaet also posted a spotless round with six birdies and no bogeys. His 65 marked his lowest single-round score since the third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February en route to a ninth-place finish.Donald was mostly brilliant throughout the day, hitting an eagle on No. 2 after starting on the back nine and draining this long birdie putt on No. 18, via the PGA Tour:This is a tournament Donald has thrived at in the past. The 39-year-old finished second in last year's RBC Heritage and has finished in the top three a trio of times since 2013.Davis Love III didn't do much to put himself in contention with a one-over par 72 in the first round, but he did have one of the best par saves on the day. After hitting his tee shot on the sixth hole into the trees and not getting out of that mess with his second shot, Love went to work trying to salvage something out of the situation, via the PGA Tour:Another player who didn't make noise on the leaderboard was Steven Bowditch, who ended the first round with an even-par 71. He did, though, become the first player in two years on this course to post an all-par score, per Justin Ray of the Golf Channel:This day was all about Cauley setting himself up for a big weekend. Branden Grace won the RBC Heritage last year with a total score of nine-under par, so Cauley has nearly matched that number. With plenty of golf still to play, Cauley has to come out in the second round with confidence and aggression to keep pressure on the players right behind him if he hopes to build some separation heading into the weekend.
