FG Approves Reduction On Import, Export Document At Seaports

The Presidential Enabling Committee on Ease of Doing business (PEBEC) has approved the reduction of document on importation and exportation of goods in and out of Nigeria.This was disclosed yesterday by the deputy controller, Anthony Ayalogu at a two-day sensitization workshop on Ease of Doing Business Reform. The Ease of Doing Business reform is to help improve Nigerias rankings in the World Bank Doing Business Index 2018.Ayalogu, while giving a highlight on the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) reforms on Ease of doing business at the ports, said import documentation has reduced from 14 document to eight while exportation documents have reduced from 10 to seven. He said, Export documentation has reduced from 10 documents to seven while import documentation was reduced from 15 to 8.According to him, cargo release order, letter of credit, manufacturers certificate of production, payment receipt of customs fee among others have been removed from documentation. Ayalogu also reeled out new PEBEC procedures on importation and exportation in Nigeria of goods into Nigeria to include palletising all containerized consignments coming into Nigeria.He said, Used spare parts must be packed in cases and the case packed in pallets. The packing list of the containers must be itemised as the goods are arranged in the containers. He continued, Vehicles imports should have the complete 17 digits VIN inscribed on the bill of laden.All form M goods should have the form M number stated on the Bill of Laden. All diplomatic goods should be indicated on Bill of Laden.Meanwhile, PEBEC said it has priotised seven indicators with the aim of moving up at least 20 places in the Ease of Doing Business ranking in the world.Speaking earlier at the forum, the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole said trading across borders, starting business, getting credit, dealing with construction permits, paying taxes, registering properties and getting electricity are key indices of the reforms initiated by PEBEC.Oduwole said the reform was basically to make Nigeria a progressively easier place of doing business and move Nigeria 20 steps ahead on the rank of ease of doing business. She also stated that PEBEC has implemented the upgrade of the CAC online portal to ensure document upload capabilities that will make it possible for new businesses to be registered online from start to finish without having to visit the CAC office.
