Tom Brady to Skip White House Visit with Donald Trump for 'Family Matters

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 19 Apr 2017

Ahead of the New England Patriots' visit to the White House on Wednesday to celebrate their Super Bowl victory with President Donald Trump, it was announced that the team will be without quarterback Tom Brady.ESPN's Mike Reiss provided the following statement from Brady, who cited "personal family matters," as the reason for being unable to attend:Multiple Patriots players declined the White House invitation in recent months. When asked about it in February onPFT Live(h/t Pro Football Talk'sMichael David Smith), the reigning Super Bowl MVP supported his teammates but also discussed the honor of visiting with the president:It really is a great experience. Putting politics aside, it never was a political thing. At least, it never was to me. It meant you won a championship and you got to experience something cool with your team, with your teammates. Everyone has their own choice. It's an offseason. These days are valuable for everybody. You only get so much time with your family and friends, and if people don't want to go they don't want to go and that's their choice.Brady also skipped the Pats' previous White House invite in 2015 during Barack Obama's administration, citing a "family commitment," perCindy Borenof theWashington Post. The five-time Super Bowl champion confirmed in January onWEEI'sThe Kirk and Callahan Show(h/tSteven RuizofUSA Today)that he and Trump are friends, and that they have known each other for 16 years.Brady expressed interest in visiting the White House next year if the Pats are able to repeat, andOddsSharkcurrently lists them as 18-5 favorites to do so.For more news, rumors and related stories about Tom Brady, the New England Patriots and the NFL,check out the NFL and Patriotsstreams onBleacher Report's app.
