Anthony Joshua has a 60% chance of knocking out Wladimir Klitschko

Published by Business Insider on Wed, 19 Apr 2017

IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is tipped to defeat ring legend Wladimir Klitschko in style.According to British bookmakers, Joshua is 4/6 favourite to beat Klitschko by knockout. That means for every 6 bet you get a 4 return, plus your initial stake. It also means the bookies think Joshua has a 60% chance of sending Klitschko crashing to the canvas.Percentage odds are a conversion of fractional (4/6) odds into a percentage (60%) to provide an "implied probability."It factors in the bookmakers' edge and can be used as to eliminate whatever advantage the bookie attempts to retain when expressing the true odds of an event occurring. In this case, it is Joshua knocking Klitschko out.A quick way of calculating implied probability takes the "denominator" (if the odds are 4/6 the denominator is the 6) and dividing by the denominator plus the numerator. For odds of 4/6, the calculation is 6/(4 + 6). This is 0.6. Multiply by 100 and you have 60%.Tyson Fury ended Klitschko's nine-year run as champion in 2015 but the Klitschko's loss was a result of a judges' decision rather than a more conclusive stoppage.Klitschko has built a hall-of-fame legacy but his time at the very top may have expired. At 41, he may be too old and too slow against a peak-form Joshua, 27, who has knocked out every single professional opponent he has ever faced.Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: Everything you need to know about 23-year-old golf phenom Jordan Spieth
