Oba, Residents Send SOS To Ambode Over Poor Shasha Road

Published by Sahara Reporters on Thu, 20 Apr 2017

The dilapidated Shasha RoadThe Oba of Shasha Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Akanbi Nasiru Lawal Ogunronbi, and residents of Shasha Area of Lagos have sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode over the poor state of the major road that links them with other areas of the state. The local monarch lamented that contracts to fix the road had been awarded three times in the past during the governorships of Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola, yet the road remains in disrepair. The Oba alleged that the contractors who were awarded contracts to rehabilitate the road bolted without executing the project.Mr. Ogunronbi described the abandoned Shasha-Ajako-Bammeke road as a crucial road linking Egbeda, Shasha, Bammeke, Oguntade, Orisumbare, Ikotun, Idimu, Ejigbo, Oshodi among others in the state. He lamented that that the road had suffered in the past 16 years despite all appeals by the residents.Despite never being repaired, records show that the road was in fact reconstructed.Shasha, a part of Alimosho Local Government Area, has over two million people spread across seven communities and is the largest concentration of the various communities that make up the area.'The abandoned Shasha-Bammeke road needs a quick solution because of the coming rains. We beg him to help us urgently or else the whole area will be a no-go area again when the rains finally come. Another election is at hand and we need these type of dividends to be able to appeal to our people to vote for the governor again when campaign starts,' the Oba said.Like the royal father, Paul Oniyide,Chairman of Kajola, one of the Community Development Associations (CDA) affected by the poor road network, equally appealed for an urgent response from the Lagos State government in view of the looming flood disaster that may arise if nothing is done to save the situation before the rain season begins.Mr. Oniyide said that if the road was upgraded in a timely manner, it would save the residents from the impending flood disasters. To many of the residents in the community, the past governments to which they had given so much support during elections had failed to provide them with basic amenities, but expressed optimism that the current government in the state would treat road construction as a priority. The dilapidated Shasha RoadSahara Reporters MediaPoliticsNewsAddThis:Original Author:Sahara Reporters, New YorkDisable advertisements:
