Zlatan Ibrahimovic 'Accepts' Manchester United Career Is over After ACL Injury

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 25 Apr 2017

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly accepted that he will not play for Manchester United again after his recent anteriorcruciate ligament injury but is keen to return to action in the United States.According to David Anderson in theMirror, the 35-year-old striker "has already moved on from the Red Devils in his mind" as he faces up to a year out with his knee injury and plans to make his comeback in Major League Soccer.Anderson added that Ibrahimovic has already received offers from a number of MLS clubs and had stalled on accepting a United offer of a further12-month deal past the expiration of his current contract in June. The former Ajax, Barcelona and Juventus star has played a huge role for Jose Mourinho's United this season, netting 28 goals in all competitions, perWhoScored.com.Ibrahimovic picked up his season-ending injury in the dying stages of normal time as United hosted Anderlecht in the UEFA Europa League last week and eventually qualified for the semi-finals.He posted a defiant message on Instagram after the grimprognosis in which he stated: "Giving up is not an option."However, it seems he may not play again in a United shirt. In matches recently against Chelsea and Burnley United have shown they can cope without Ibrahimovic, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both stepping into the No. 9 role with great success.Given his age it was always likely Ibrahimovic would play a reduced role if he remained at United next season, but now it seems increasingly clear he will only spend one campaign at Old Trafford. For more news, rumours and related stories about Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Manchester Unitedand the Premier League, check out the Premier League and Manchester UnitedstreamsonBleacher Report's app.
