Reps Mourn, Extol Adelekes Virtues

Following the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the House of Representatives yesterday, adjourned plenary to mourn the the late Senator who died on Sunday.However, the lawmakers before that, took turn to eulogize him after a motion under matters of urgent public importance was moved by Hon. Mojeed Alabi wherein he described the death of the senator as a great loss to the country.Alabi, who became teary-eyed while speaking, recalled that though Adeleke was elected as governor at 37 and didnt complete his tenure due to the Abacha coup, added that his achievements ensured that he became a constant factor in the state of Osun and Nigeria at large.He came to this world and saw and conquered. He is a political icon of no mean repute, Alabi stated.On his part, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Yussuf Lasun in his contribution said the ate senator was a trailblazer who towered above others in the field of politics, business and in philanthropy.Noting that the late Senator was close to his family, Lasun revealed that Adeleke visited his father (Lasun) about 48 hours before his death.He said: Adeleke was the son of a former senator, who became governor at an age many of his contemporaries where still trying to find their way in life. He later was elected as a senator. He therefore didnt betray the legacy left behind by his father, Senator Ayoola Adeleke.Lasun while recalling that the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congresshad ordered him and the late senator to stop all forms of campaigns for governorship of the state, however noted that his style of politics was one that held the relationship between his family and Adelekes together.Also speaking, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha said that the late senators death was also being felt in Abia State where his mother hailed from.Onyejeocha who informed that she served as a corp member in his office while he was Osun State governor, noted that he lived for improving the lot of the poor.Similarly, Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf, Chairman, House committee on capital market stated that Adeleke as his counterpart in the Senate, displayed uncommon team spirit adding that they both worked closely in ensuring that there were legislative interventions to make Nigerias capital market more competitive.The House offered both Muslim and Christian prayers for the soul of the late political Icon as well as his family and the people of Osun State.The late Adeleke was a three time senator and the first civilian governor of Osun state.
