Packers Reportedly Considering DeShone Kizer with 33rd Draft Pick

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 28 Apr 2017

After trading out of the first round Thursday, the Green Bay Packers are reportedly considering selecting Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer with the first pick of the 2017 NFL draft's second round, which begins Friday.According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Kizer is "in play" for the Pack at No. 33, but they are also receiving trade calls and could potentially move out of the spot.In trading back to No. 33 from No. 29 with the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay also picked up the 108th overall selection at the top of the fourth round.Kizer is widely considered the top signal-caller remaining in the draft, but he struggled at times with the Fighting Irish last season. The big-armed gunslinger threw for 2,925 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions as a junior, while also rushing for 472 yards and eight scores.Accuracy is a major concern, however, as he completed just 58.7 percent of his passes. The Packers boast one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks in the form of Aaron Rodgers, who is coming off another huge year with 40 touchdown passes.Rodgers has shown no signs of slowing down, but he is 33 years old, which could play into Green Bay wanting to look toward the future. The Packers' current backup quarterback is Brett Hundley, whom they selected in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft.Green Bay experienced several departures on both sides of the ball this offseason, and it can be argued that defensive back and running back are far bigger needs than quarterback presently.
