Jose Mourinho Reportedly Enforces 'Strict' Manchester United Social Media Rules

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 02 May 2017

Jose Mourinho has reportedly implemented "a strict new set of rules" regarding his Manchester United players' use of social media.According to The Independent's Jack Pitt-Brooke, the Special One is keen to reduce the amount of information leaving the club and decided pictures from training within two days of a game or from the team bus in the build-up are not to be published online.Mourinho is hoping the rules will keep his players focused on matchdays and prevent information getting out, particularly at "sensitive times."According to Pitt-Brooke, Mourinho was "furious" with Luke Shaw over the following post from November:The left-back was given a dressing down over the video because Mourinho perceived it to imply Shaw was having to take the initiativewith his own return to fitness rather than the club handling it.Paul Pogba is also active on social media, though some United supporters may not be overly enamoured with his activity given he has produced some mixed performances sincerejoining the clubfor 89 million:Ultimately, Mourinho is said to want to change the mentality of his squad, whom he believes have "gone soft" in recent years.Rivals Arsenalwho have cultivated a deserved reputation for mental fragility in recent yearshave frequentlybeen criticisedfor their players' use of social media. However, social media use is prevalent in the modern era, so it's of little wonder that many footballersmake use of it.It's not just limited to clubs like Arsenal, either, with players from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich similarly active before and after matches. While United's rivals are unlikely to ever glean anything useful from their players' social media posts, it's understandable Mourinho wants some control over information leaving the club.As for restoring the Red Devils' winning mentality, restricting their use of social media is unlikely to have a significant impact one way or the other.
