$300m Wood Fraud Allegation: Labour Applauds UN Support For Amina Mohammed

BY Michael Oche, Abuja The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies, (SSASCGOC), has applauded the United Nations, (UN) for supporting Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed following allegation of her involvement in illegal timber trade worth $300million. This is just as a group of concerned Nigerians, led by Alhaji Nasiru Saminu Zaitun, also expressed confidence that the UN deputy secretary general will be vindicated.The Environmental Investigation Agency had claimed in its latest report that the former minister might have been a beneficiary of illegal rosewood exports to China. But the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has thrown his weight behind her. The UN secretary-general was informed by the deputy secretary general about the reports and he reiterates his full support and confidence in her. The deputy secretary general categorically rejected any allegations of fraud. She welcomes the effort to shine more light on the issue of illegal rosewood logging and exportation that she fought hard to address during her tenure in the Nigerian Government.While addressing a press conference in Abuja at the weekend, Saminu Zaitun, said it was a deliberate attempt, by some corrupt elements in the timber industry to rubbish Nigeria and Amina Mohammed in the international community.Comrade Ayo Olorunfemi, the Secretary General of SSASCGOC, who spoke with journalists said it has become an unfortunate trend by influential and corrupt people to pull down any successful Nigerian who is climbing the ladder through hard work.Specifically, both Zaitun and Olorunfemi, believe that the support given to Amina is a support to Nigeria and the current administrations efforts to fight corruption.The post $300m Wood Fraud Allegation: Labour Applauds UN Support For Amina Mohammed appeared first on leadership.ng.
