Charly Musonda, Chelsea Agree to New Contract Through 2022

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 09 Dec 2017

Chelsea have confirmed that Charly Musonda has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2022.The 21-year-old attacking midfielder made his Premier League debut on the opening day of the season against Burnleyand will be hoping he can kick on and force his way into Antonio Conte's first-team plans.Chelsea's record of loaning out their youngsters is well-known, but having signed his new deal Musonda has said he wants to remain at the club and prove his worth.Per Chelsea's websitehe said: "I am very happy and very proud. I came here very young and am very happy to continue my journey here. I love this club so its a great moment for me and my family. Now I want to establish myself and progress into the team and stay here permanently."Freelance sports journalist Simon Phillips said Musonda has the potential to have the same impact on the club as Eden Hazard:Musonda is starting to make the breakthrough at Chelsea. He has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and scored on his full debut in the Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest.Conte has said Musonda will get more chances to play this season, per ESPN FC's Liam Twomey:However, Musonda has shown his immaturity by complaining on Instagram about a lack of game time, although the post was subsequently deleted, perJake Poldenat theMirror.PerEwan RobertsatMetro, Conte has said the youngster "understood his mistake" but also added that defender Andreas Christensen "can be a good example" for Musonda.Christensen spent two years on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach but has returned to west London and has managed to force his way into the first team. There's no doubting Musonda's potential. He is a skilful player and a superb dribbler who enjoys taking players on and has a keen eye for goal.Having committed his future to Chelsea, he will now be hoping Conte allows him further chances to stake a claim for a first-team spot. However, it is still entirely possible the club may decide a loan, where he can play more regularly, may be more beneficial to his development.
