Arsenal vs. West Ham United: Preview, Live Stream, TV Info for Carabao Cup

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 18 Dec 2017

Arsenal host West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. A win will see the Gunners reach their first semi-final in the competition since 2011.Winning won't be easy, though, not after the way David Moyes has revived the Hammers since succeeding Slaven Bilic as manager.Moyes has guided his side to a crucial 1-0 win over Chelsea, a goalless draw with Arsenal and a 3-0 victory at Stoke City in the Premier League to lift the Hammers out of the bottom three.West Ham had been showing good form in this competition before Moyes arrived, coming back from two goals down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the previous round. Here are the schedule and viewing detailsalthough the match won't be televised in the United Kingdombefore a preview and a look at the team news:Date:Tuesday, December 19Time:7:45 p.m. GMT, 2:45 p.m. ET.TV Info: ESPN3Live Stream:WatchESPN. The Gunners were beaten on home soil at this stage last season, when the competition was known as the EFL Cup, losing 2-0 to eventual runners-up Southampton.Whatever its guise, this remains the one domestic trophy Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hasn't claimed during his career. Even without a win, deep progress was once common, with the Frenchman losing two finals and guiding the Gunners to numerous semi-final appearances. However, Arsenal have found the going tougher in recent seasons, losing twice to Southampton, as well as to Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday and Chelsea since 2011.Wenger prefers to play refreshed teams in the tournament, usually with an emphasis on youth. The policy saw 18-year-old striker Eddie Nketiah score twice to beat Norwich City in the previous round. It was a match where Wenger moved midfielder Mohamed Elneny into defence while playing right-back Mathieu Debuchy as a centre-back. A similar approach may be needed this time, depending on what formation the manager deploys, with the Frenchman switching from three at the back to a back four for Arsenal's last two matches in the Premier League.Wenger revealed during a press conference on Friday how central defender Shkodran Mustafi is back from a muscular problem, but he also indicated midfielder Aaron Ramsey will be out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.Meanwhile, Theo Walcott missed Saturday's 1-0 win over Newcastle United with a groin problem, per Alex Young of the London Evening Standard.Per Mertesacker, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers will be in contention to feature at the back, no matter what defensive shape the Gunners adopt. As for West Ham, Moyes will need to decide how much he values this competition next to the club's bid to stay in the Premier League. His team selection will reveal the answer, although the former Everton boss could call on the pace of Javier Hernandez or the aerial brawn of Andy Carroll to test Arsenal's defence. He could also welcome Winston Reid back into the Hammers' back four after a suspension. Meanwhile, the Scot's biggest decision will involve who starts between the posts; Joe Hart or Adrian, whose form has led to the England international being benched in the league.Moyes did reveal injury concerns about three prominent first-teamers after Saturday's win over Stoke, per Kevin Beirne of Football.London:"Obviously, there are a few dropping at the moment. Mark Noble has now got an injury, we had (Pablo) Zabaleta with a dead leg from early on in the game, so we are finding ourselves struggling for players.Even at the end, Marko Arnautovic had a calf strain so we had to bring him off for Chicharito to go on the right as we ran out of midfield players, even with Declan Rice coming on."While Wenger will want to refresh his team, he should be careful about making too many changes and gambling with a trophy the Gunners can win.Arsenal are struggling for a top-four finish in the league, with little chance of winning the title, so success in the cups is a must.
