Jeremy Kerley Waived by Jets, Was Coming off of 4-Game PED Suspension

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 19 Dec 2017

The New York Jets waived wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, the team announced Monday. The move comes after Kerley finished serving his four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy.Kerley had 22 receptions for 217 yards and a touchdown in his first eight appearances this year.Kerley's suspension was originally set to expire Dec. 11 following New York's 23-0 defeat to the Denver Broncos in Week 14. He remained ineligible for the team's 31-19 Week 15 defeat to the New Orleans Saints after the Jetsused a roster exemptionto add him to the practice squad without officially activating him.Newsday'sCalvin Watkinsnoted the Jets had until 4 p.m. ET Monday to either waive Kerley or re-activate him, which would've required freeing up a spot on the team's 53-man roster.Kerley's release comes as little surprise. He offered little value to the Jets before he was suspended, and his absence allowed Robby Anderson to shine, thus making Kerley surplus to requirements. In the four games after Kerley's suspension went into effect, Anderson caught 21 passes for 365 yards and three touchdowns. Anderson ranks 19th among wide receivers in DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above replacement), perFootball Outsiders, and has emerged as a long-term option for the Jets offense going forward.
