Aly Raisman on Larry Nassar Abuse Case: USAG Doesn't Care About Gymnasts

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman said Tuesday she doesn't believe USA Gymnastics cares about its athletes in wake of the Larry Nassar scandal.Raisman, who said on 60 Minutes in November she was sexually abused by Nassar, talked about the sport's United States governing body with Outside The Lines:The 23-year-old Massachusetts native said U.S. national team gymnasts were told Nassar was the "best doctor" and they were "very lucky...to see him.""I was in denial. I was like, 'I don't thi-- I d-- I don't even know what to think. It-- you don't wanna let yourself believe but, you know, I am-- I am-- I am a victim of-- of sexual abuse,' she said. "Like, it's really not an easy thing to let yourself believe that."On Monday,Emanuella Grinbergof CNN noted 2016 Olympic sensation Simone Biles joined former American standout gymnasts Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas and McKayla Maroney in coming forward with abuse allegations against the former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor.USA Gymnastics released astatementlast week saying it "never attempted to hide Nassar's misconduct.""USA Gymnastics has and will continue to take specific and concrete steps to prevent future abuse by vigorously enforcing the USA Gymnastics Safe Sport Policy," the statement read. "We are focused on further developing a culture that has safe sport as a top priority throughout the organization."Nassar received a60-year sentencein federal prison last month after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography from 2003 to 2016 and destroying evidence while under investigation.Lauren Gibbonsof MLive.com noted he faces two more sentencing court dates, one this week on seven first-degree criminal sexual abuse charges and another Jan. 31 for three separate first-degree criminal sexual abuse charges.
