2018 NFL Mock Draft: Full Order and 1st-Round Predictions for Top Prospects

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 19 Jan 2018

The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL draft passed on Monday, and several highly-touted prospects pulled stunners when they announced they would return to school.Chief among them: Clemson defensive linemen Christian Wilkins and Clelin Ferrell, Ohio State wide receiver Parris Campbell and Stanford running back Bryce Love.As a result, there were a few adjustments to be made as the NFL prepares for the AFC and NFC Championship Games.Note: Draft order is current through the divisional round of the playoffs. Teams competing in conference championship games are listed according to their seed. Updated 1st-Round Mock Draft1. Cleveland Browns: Sam Darnold, QB, USC2. New York Giants: Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA3. Philadelphia Eagles:Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan32: New England Patriots:Isaiah Oliver, CB, ColoradoTampa Bay Buccaneers:Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre DameThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to start winning in the trenches if they want to fully unleash the weapons they've stockpiled at key skill positions, which means it would behoove them to target a quality offensive lineman in Round 1.Not only did the Buccaneers allow 40 sacks in 2017, but they averaged a 27th-ranked 3.7 yards per carry. The answer to those woes, then, could be Notre Dame'sMike McGlincheywho projects as an instant contributor after he emerged as one of the nation's most physically imposing bookends during his time in South Bend, Indiana.Tampa Bay also has glaring needs at defensive end, running back and cornerback, so it's certainly not a lock that the front office will hone in on an offensive lineman. That said, fortifying the offensive line with a talent ofMcGlinchey's caliber could help unlock the rest of an offense that underwhelmed throughout a disappointing 2017 season.San Francisco 49ers:Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, AlabamaThe San Francisco 49ers hit a home run by selecting an Alabama prospect (linebacker Reuben Foster) in the first round of the 2017 draft, so why not double-dip into the Crimson Tide talent pool with defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick'While Fitzpatrick could easily fly off the board within the first five picks after he racked up nine interceptions, including four pick-sixes, 171 tackles, five sacks and 24 defended passes during his three-year stay with the Tide, it stands to reason he could slide toward the back of the top-10.If that happens, the 49ers should run their draft card up to the podium.San Francisco's defense ranked 22nd against the pass in 2017, and it could use an upgrade at cornerback opposite 2017 third-round pickAhkello Witherspoon. The 49ers would also be getting a player who's able to move around formations and cause matchup problems against receivers or tight ends."He's not quite on the same level ofJamal Adamswhen it comes to changing the entire culture of a locker room, but he is just as talented and probably more versatile," an AFC executive told NFL.com'sLance Zierlein. Washington Redskins: Vita Vea, DT, WashingtonIf Kirk Cousins walks in free agency, this pick likely changes to a quarterback. But for the time being, we need to make a selection that helps the Redskins' problematic run defense.Enter Washington defensive tackle Vita Vea,who is an interior wrecking ball of the highest order.A 6'5", 340-pound run-stuffer, Vea piled up 15.0 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks over three seasons at Washington as he consistently penetrated opposing offensive lines and burst his way into the backfield. But just because Vea is a mauler inside doesn't mean he's a plodder."He runs as fast as linebackers and cuts as quick as running backs. He races skill players. He has a 4.8 40-yard dash time," ESPN.com's Edward Aschoff wrote. "Strapped with a Catapult GPS monitoring device, Vea was supposedly clocked running between 19 and 21 mph while chasing down a screen play against USC last season."At Vea's size, athletes of that caliber don't come around often. And with the Redskins in desperate need of reinforcements after opponents ripped them for 134.1 yards per game on the ground in 2017, it will be hard to pass up on that combination of size and speed.
