Barcelona Transfer News: PSG Midfielder Adrien Rabiot Reportedly Targeted

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 23 Mar 2018

Barcelona have reportedly renewed their interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot as they look to strengthen their midfield. The Catalan giants failed to land the midfielder in summer 2017 as part of the deal that took Neymar to Paris. However, they remain interested and PSG may be tempted to sell the midfielder as his contract expires in 2019, per Mundo Deportivo (h/t Anthony Hay for MailOnline)Rabiot is a key member of the PSG team, and his quality in possession is highlighted by WhoScored.com:The Frenchman's form has dipped in recent months, and he was far from his best in PSG's UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid. Football writer Matt Spiro was unimpressed with his comments after the game:Goal's Robin Bairner criticised his attitude during the 2-1 defeat:PSG are on course to win Ligue 1, but the Champions League is the club's real ambition and their exit at the last-16 stage will feel like a disappointment. The defeat may cause the club to reassess their squad, and Rabiot's situation may be of concern. His contract expires in 2019, and if the club do not renew his deal, he will be able to walk away as a free agent.Barcelona have plenty of quality in midfield but may be considering how to replace some of their senior figures. Andres Iniesta has said he has an offer from a club in China and could leave the Camp Nou, per Rik Sharmain the Mirror.Ivan Rakitic is already 30 while both Paulinho and Sergio Busquets will celebrate that landmark in 2018.The club have already sought to strengthen their midfield with Philippe Coutinho having arrived from Liverpool in January. The Brazilian is expected to replace Iniesta, and the club have also confirmed they have an option to sign Gremio midfielder Arthur in July.If Rabiot were to arrive, it would more than likely be as a replacement for Busquets, but the midfielder is showing no signs of slowing down. He has been crucial to their success this season as they have swept to the top of La Liga and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League. It's also difficult to see Rabiot wanting to swap a starting role at PSG for a place on the Barcelona bench, while relations between the two clubs may not be the best following Neymar's departure for PSG last summer.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
