Dozens of England Fans Arrested After Violent Amsterdam Altercation with Police

Dozens of England supporters have been arrested in Amsterdam after violent altercations with police ahead of the Three Lions' international friendly with the Netherlands on Friday.Dutch police said they had arrested 25 supporters who were drunk and had thrown beer bottles at officers, per BBC Sport.Before the match, England manager Gareth Southgate had urged supporters to "behave in the right way" and "respect the country they're in," per theGuardian.However, Southgate's words appear to have been ignored and the news will further tarnish the reputation of England supporters who have a long history of hooliganism.Englandfanswere also caught up in violent exchanges at the UEFA 2016 European Championship in France and there are fears there may be similar trouble at the FIFA 2018 World Cup.The Football Association also handed out liftetime bans to supporters in June 2017 after England's 1-0 defeat to Germany was marred by fans making Nazi-related gestures, perMiguel Delaneyat The Independent.Football Away Daysposted a video showing fans throwing beer off a bridge onto a boat carrying passengers:However, Matt Law at theDaily Telegraphsuggested the video may not be from today:England take on the Netherlands at the Amsterdam Arena on Friday night in an international friendly as they continue their preparations for the World Cup.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
