11 tech devices I use to solve little problems that used to annoy me all the time

Published by Business Insider on Sat, 21 Jul 2018

TheInsider Picksteam writes about stuff that we think you'll like. Business Insider has affiliate partnerships, so we get a share of the revenue from your purchase.I review a lot of gadgets for Insider Picks, and my favorites always end up solving problems I didn't realize I had.I never knew that plugging my phone into a charger was annoying until I tried a wireless charging pad; I thought I was stuck using Siri in my car until I found a car charger for my phone that had Alexa built inside of it; And my mind was blown when I realized that a sous vide tool was the only kitchen appliance I needed to effortlessly make a perfectly cooked steak for a weeknight dinner. It's not that it would be hard or annoying to use a charging cable, Siri, or a skillet and a timer, but after getting used to these new accessories, I wouldn't want to.To help you solve little annoyances you might not realize you have, I've collected 11 gadgets that help me fix the ones in my life.Once you go through an entire day without plugging in and unplugging your phone, or come home to a house with clean floors thanks to a robot vacuum, you'll find it's hard to go back to life without them.SEE ALSO:The Airpods' biggest design 'flaw' is actually their greatest strength ' here's why I think Apple got it rightDON'T MISS:Microsoft has discounted over 650 Xbox and PC games for a 10-day summer saleA Bluetooth tracker that keeps tabs on your wallet or house keys, and helps you locate them when they're misplaced.Tile Slim, $27.75, available at AmazonNo one thinks they need a device to keep track of their wallet or keysuntil they realize they've misplaced or lost them. I keep aTile Slimin my wallet since I'm self-aware enough to know I forget where I put things from time to time, and it works very well. Tile's app sends a notification to my phone whenever it loses its Bluetooth connection to my wallet, and helps me locate it.Read my full review of the Tile Slim tracker.A wireless charger for easier (and lazier) phone charging at home.Mophie Wireless Charge Pad, $57.83We've been plugging our gadgets into computers, hubs, and adapters forever, so the idea of getting a wireless charging pad might seem a little frivolous, but it's not.I tried Mophie's Wireless Charge Pad a few months ago, and it hasn't left my work desk yet. It's so convenient to put your phone down on a pad, and pick it up fully charged. Unlike some cheaper options, Mophie's wireless charging pad can charge an iPhone 8, 8 Plus, or X at its full 7.5W speed, and has no problems charging my phone through its case.Wired charging is still faster and more consistent than using a wireless charging pad, but once you get into the habit of putting your phone in the same spot, you'll never have to worry about its battery dying again.Read my full review of mophie's Wireless Charging Pad here.An Alexa-enabled car charger that provides directions and answers questions while you drive.Roav VIVA Alexa-Enabled 2-Port USB Car Charger, $59.99, available at AmazonAll modern smartphones have a smart assistant built into them: iPhones have Siri, and Android phones have Google Assistant, so it might seem redundant to also have Alexa in your car.But the Roav VIVA proves that isn't the case at all. The car charger has two USB ports to charge your devices, and a microphone that lets you access Amazon's Alexa. It's kind of like keeping an Echo Dot in your car, except the VIVA is a lot smaller.Once it's plugged in, the VIVA can connect to your Amazon account through an app on your phone, and can be used like a regular Alexa-enabled device. You can ask the VIVA for directions from Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze, and they'll pop up on your phone's screen. You can ask it to play music from your Amazon Music Unlimitedaccount, and it'll start playing the song, album, or playlist you requested. It's even possible to control your smart home accessories from the Roav VIVA, so you can turn your smart light bulbs on as you're coming up to the driveway, so you don't have to walk into a dark house.Read my full Roav VIVA review here.See the rest of the story at Business Insider
