CentX Accelerates Performance in SME Market with Huawei

Published by Itnewsafrica on Fri, 16 May 2014

CentX, a technology solutions provider specialising in hosted products and solutions for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) announced its collaboration with Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, in the deployment of its new-generation Huawei storage system.Huawei has been spied on by the NSA (image: Charlie Fripp)According to the Banking Association of South Africa, SMEs have been identified as productive drivers of inclusive economic growth and development in South Africa. Some researchers have estimated that SMEs make up 91% of formalised businesses and provide employment to about 60% of the labour force. Their total economic output accounts for roughly 34% of GDP.Yet, with limited resources, SMEs often face challenges in building comprehensive storage and data protection solutions, to ensure stable and secure enterprise development. As a young start-up company itself, CentX experienced exponential business growth, resulting in the need for a cost-effective, reliable solution which ensured sufficient scalability, fast deployment and efficient response times to meet their service delivery requirements.Huawei's OceanStor S2200T solution is specially designed for entry-level applications. The solution is easy-to-use and features digital media functionality, video surveillance, centralised storage, backup, disaster recovery and data migration amongst its many business applications. All these features can be remotely managed by a tablet, which is a first of its kind in the industry. With industry leading hardware specifications, it integrates high-end technology such as TurboModule high-density interface, flexible I/O modules and hot-swappable design with multiple data protection, providing SMEs with a highly efficient and affordable solution.Huawei's S2200T offered CentX extensive vStorage API for Array Integration (VAAI) support, where specific storage operations were offloaded to compliant storage hardware, resulting in less CPU, memory and storage fabric bandwidth consumption. A virtual machine was enabled to be deployed within 15 minutes, proving to be 3 times faster than other vendor products.Since the installation, CentX's efficiency and speed of deployment of virtual environments has increased dramatically.'The Huawei OceanStor S2200T exceeded all expectations in its performance and delivery. It is simply the most reliable and powerful entry-level storage area network (SAN) we've ever used. The brilliant performance is enhanced by its stability. The ease of use with extending RAID online adds to the convenience and simplicity,' says Jordan Brimer, Senior Technical Engineer at CentX.Additionally, Huawei's innovative power-down protection technology in the Oceanstor S2200T, together with the Huawei-developed DiskGuard and UltraAPM data protection software, allows cache data to be written to the data coffer automatically, ensuring that data is always recoverable, even after the accidental deletion of data by system administrators or data loss, due to viruses or operating system disk damage. The HyperCopy functionality provides local data backup and recovery, allowing for off-site data backup and disaster recovery protection. The S2000T is also equipped with hard disk pre-copy technology, enabling it to anticipate hard disk failure in advance, and initiate failed hard disk data migration automatically, to reduce risk of data loss.'Huawei is proud to play a role in SME development with CentX in South Africa. Focusing on constant innovation and value creation, Huaweis storage products are committed to providing more stable, efficient, and scalable solutions, playing an increasingly important role in data protection with constant input and investments,' says Eman Liu, President of Huawei Enterprise Business Group, eastern and southern Africa.Darren Hengst, CEO of CentX, concluded by adding, 'With throughput as high as 600 MB/s offering greater cost-effectiveness, we are now able to service our customers in a much shorter time frame. Time, service and management are critical in our business, which is why we depend on Huawei to keep us on top of the game within the SME market.'Staff writerRelated ArticlesNSA spied on Huawei (0)Huawei opens its first store in Africa (0)Huawei receives award for 'Best Cloud Platform for Africa' (0)Huawei Releases 2012 H1 Results; Sales Revenue of CNY102.7 Billion (0)Huawei appoints new CEO for South Africa (0)Huawei cannot be trustedU.S draft Congress report (0)
