Ciro Immobile to Borussia Dortmund: BVB Sign Torino Star to 5-Year Contract

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 03 Jun 2014

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Torino forward Ciro Immobile, with the 24-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Signal Iduna Park.ESPN FC confirmed the move, while the official Borussia Dortmund Twitter account also welcomed their newest arrival:Immobile will travel to Brazil in the coming week as part of Cesare Prandelli's Italy squad, having established his credentials as a leading striker following a prolific 2013-14 campaign with Torino.Speaking at a press conference on Monday, via the official Bundesliga website, Immobile said:Borussia Dortmund are a huge club and the idea of replacing [Robert] Lewandowski really appeals to me. I've spoken to [Luca] Caldirola (Werder Bremen) and [Giulio] Donati (Bayer Leverkusen) and they've told me that the Bundesliga's a fantastic leagueone of the best in the world. The former Juventus attacker made only a handful of appearances for the Bianconeri over the course of a three-year stint in Turin, and instead spent the period largely being farmed out or involved with other clubs in part-ownership.However, Jurgen Klopp clearly feels confident that Immobile is now reaching his potential, presumably seeking his talents to soften the blow of Robert Lewandowski's impending move to Bayern Munich.Norwegian pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft, who is clearly a fan of the player and transfer alike, claims that the Black and Yellows have paid a fee of 20 million for their newest recruit:Lewandowski isn't the first star player that Dortmund have been forced to find a replacement for, having sold Mario Goetze to rivals Bayern Munich last summer, bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan as his successor. The Bundesliga giants' success has meant that key assets within their squad inevitably draw the gaze of European suitors, but Immobile's swift acquisition again shows Dortmund's efficiency in dealing with such matters. The club announced several months ago that Hertha Berlin forward Adrian Ramos will also be their player next term, per BBC Sport, but Immobile will go even further in beefing up the team's attacking reserves. The World Cup could have posed a stumbling block in trying to wrap up the deal had Dortmund left it any longer, but both club and player will have settled their nerves as a result of the announcement.Immobile will now look to carry on his fine scoring form in Brazil before heading to Germany for his maiden Bundesliga season.Read more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
