Shareholders task Okonjo-Iweala on economic growth

Following the resumption of thenew Finance Minster, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, shareholders in the nation's capital market have tasked the minister to leverage on her wealth of experience in the global scene and ensure that the stock market is returned to profitability.The shareholders said that, the finance minister being a technocrat, as well as given the pride of place in the President Jonathan Goodluck's new cabinet, she must help fast track government holistic growth of the economy.According to the Shareholders, Nigeria which is supposed to be the giant of Africa has experienced a lot of setback in terms of development which can easily be traced to insincerity and lack of transparency in leadership.Bearing their minds on what the government need to do in the next four years, since Okonjo-Iweala has been made to coordinate the 24-man economic team seeking to turnaround the fortune of the domestic economy for good, National Cordinator, Progressive Shareholders of Nigeria, Mr Boniface Okezie, said the finance minister must as a matter of urgency put machinery in place that would help reposition the economy.Okezie said there was the greater need now for the minister to employ the services of people of like minds to work with her, more especially Nigerians in Diaspora who are willing to serve the country, noting that that was the only way to deliver the dividends of democracy as promised by the government.'She should employ technocrats who know what they are doing; not the type that we have today.Most African countries are consulting some Nigerian technocrats today even in the World Bank.He pointed out that the ongoing financial reforms in the various sector of the economy should be scrutinised to ascertain the impact on the economy, noting that the ones that were not adding value to the economy should be discarded.
