Published by Tribune on Tue, 27 Sep 2011

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that the perpetrators of the UN House, Abuja bomb blast do not escape justice, saying that they must be fished out to show to the world that Nigeria is a safe place to live and invest. In his condolence message, SSANU President, Comrade Ugwoke, said it was very unfortunate that some group of people could chose the holy month of Ramadan to perpetrate such act, that led to the death of many innocent people. Why many more were injured.Comrade Ugwoke expressed shock at the attack, saying that the UN, with its collaboration and assistance to Nigeria does not deserve such treatment under whatever guise.Citing example of the Deputy Director General of the ILO in charge of employment, Jose Manuel Salazar Xirinachs, who is in Nigeria on employment generation efforts, Comrade Ugwoke said Nigerians should rather appreciate the contributions of UN and the ILO to the country. He said: 'SSANU regret the unnecessary attack on the UN House, Abuja, especially with so many lives lost and many injured in the attack.'The bombing of the UN Headquarters at Abuja is a dastardly act and should be condemned by all and sundry. The perpetrators and their sponsors should be arrested and brought to book to face justice.'Federal Government should step up surveillance and intelligence all over the country and protect lives and property of Nigerians and other nationals residing within our boundary.'SSANU commiserates with the family and relatives of those who lost their lives in the blast.'He commiserated with the workers, who were affected in the bomb blast, as well as expatriates over this ugly incident and wishes those that sustained various degrees of injuries quick recovery. He sympathized with the families of those that lost their loved ones and prayed that God should grant them the fortitude to bear the loss and pray for the repose of the departed souls. The SSANU president, however, called on all Nigerians to support the efforts of the government in combating terrorism.
