Lagos bakers appeal to police for security

BAKERS and caterers in Lagos State, under the auspices of Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, have raised the alarm over the increasing rate of armed robbery attacks of their members .The bakers claimed that one of them was killed a few weeks ago with two others lying critically at two General Hospital. Over 10 bakerieshad been attacked by armed robbers in the state .The bakers , while paying a courtesy visit on the state police commissioner , Yakubu Alkali, urged the police boss to save them and their businesses by providing conducive environment for their operation.The chairman of the Lagos State branch of the association, Prince Jacob Adejorin, decried the high level and constant attacks on bakers in the state, especially in the night .The bakers chairman stated that armed robbers were taking advantage of the fact that most baking activities were done in the night to unleash terror on bakeries, especially the ones in rural communities' We have to mention it to you that our business are under threat in Lagos State as a result of the activities of armed robbers , who have practically turned their attention to us, 'The chairman said.He said further that two of the members of the association were receiving treatment at different hospitals in the state , one killed with no fewer than 10 bakeries attacked in the last one month.The association also appealed to the state police commissioner to create a link between members of the association and area commanders and divisional police stations in the state.The bakers also promised to play their roles in security arrangement in the state, as the chairman declared that ' Sir we are looking forward to your invitation anytime on security matter. 'The state commissioner of police expressed the willingness of the police to provide security, for not just bakers in the state but to every resident of Lagos State .He, however, urged the bakers to imbibe the spirit of brotherliness and learn how to coexist since ' nobody can act in isolation.
