NEMA warns S/South states to prepare for more rains

THE National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has urged states in the South-South zone of the federation to brace up for more rains this month and next month.Mr Umesi Emenike, the South South Zonal Coordinator of the agency, gave the warning in Port Harcourt.He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the agency in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment and the National Meteorological Agency had alerted the states on the rains and the consequent flooding.''So far, we (NEMA) have been collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Environment and National Metrological Institute, on prediction of rainfall and flooding.''In the South-south Zone, we have recorded serious flooding in Calabar and other parts of Cross River State.''We have also had partial flooding in some areas in Delta State and a few in Rivers state'.Emenike said the agency was working to ensure that the affected states received the alert about the rains and flooding predictions in their areas at the right time.He said that the agency had visited some of the affected states to assess their level of preparedness and areas to assist SEMA in checking flood.
