PETINRIN'S REDEPLOYMENT

The current travails of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, may just teach parents a lesson or two about naming. Petinrin, an Ijesha name usually reserved for abiku children who, in Yoruba cosmology, are capable of deciding their birth and death, only to be born again for as many times as they like, has been ordered to report in Plateau State by President Goodluck Jonathan.Dr Reuben Abati in a release wrote: 'In keeping with his avowed resolve to ensure the full security of life and property across the country, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on Monday (September 12, 2011) in Abuja directed the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin to take full charge of the security situation in Plateau State immediately.'The presidential directive is meant to put the persistent bloodshed on the Plateau under check, almost two years after the crisis erupted.But since it has become his tradition to tarry on the way, we may need the services of members of the General Yakubu Gowon's Nigeria Prays group to pray that Petinrin, literally transliterated as 'he's been walking for a while, or, he tarried on the way', gets to Jos on time to restore peace and save some of the remainder of the target of the bloodthirsty Fulani's anger.
