AN UNUSUAL HONEYMOON

Published by Tribune on Tue, 27 Sep 2011

MR Raheem Ogundeji is the economicadviser that President GoodluckJonathan needs. It is true that he has no doctorate and is not a Keynesian economist, but he knows how to firmly hold the key to the food store. The state and government houses spend too much money on food, a lot of which is thrown away, and Mr Ogundeji will put a stop to the provocative nonsense.MR Ogundeji stood before a Dr Gladstone ' his full name is Dr Gladstone Ipaye ' and did not show any unhappiness, let alone embarrassment, when his wife revealed that he did the buying of foodstuffs. Dr Gladstone Ipaye is the president of a Grade 'A' Customary Court in Mushin, Lagos.MORILIATU is the name of Mr Ogundeji's missus. She was not mealy-mouthed when she said her husband was a practical economist with sharp cost-cutting skills. She said her husband hid the foodstuffs away from her and measured out rice and tubers of yam for her to cook. She said what she was given to cook was a miserly measure and that she often went hungry.MR Ogundeji did not tell the divorce court that his wife had cooked up the allegation. He said he wanted to be out of the marriage which, as they say in Nigeria, is blessed with children. But there are some children ' armed robbers, kidnappers, terrorists, among others ' who are a curse.MORILIATU said no way, that she had not failed as a wife and would want to remain married, especially for the sake of her children.MR Ogundeji listened to the persuasion of Dr Gladstone Ipaye, the divorce court president, and said he would give his wife a three-month probationary period.MORILIATU told the court that she would turn over a new leaf, but with Mr Ogundeji, the unromantic economist, it is going to be an unusual honeymoon.
