JIGAWA'S TOMB RAIDER

Published by Tribune on Tue, 27 Sep 2011

IT is not certain if Citizen X, said to have met his death in Kazaure, Jigawa State, while attempting to steal from a dead man, had seen the rerun of The Tomb Raider, starring the delectable Angelina Jolie. This man, whose identity is still shrouded in mystery at the time of going to press, was reported to have made a daring attempt to raid a tomb in Kazaure. Unlike Jolie who survived with the aid of electrifying cinematic stunts, the Kazaure tomb grave robber lost his life.THOUGH the mystery of how the man met his death is yet to be unravelled, the manner of his death was brutally shocking, as he was seen trapped in the fresh mound of dug earth of the grave he wanted to rob. While some said the ghost of his intended victim must have grabbed his head while digging the grave, others insisted that the alleged grave robber must have hit his head on the coffin of his ghost-victim and consequently lost that head.BUT whatever is the case, Citizen X of Kazaure did not get the chance to learn a very instructive lesson, that it is very dangerous, indeed deadly, to steal from a ghost. If at all there is any hope of a lesson after life, it would be that stealing from humans is not so hard as stealing from a dead person. To successfully steal from humans, all you need is a good lawyer who can plea-bargain on your behalf and the generous heart to share the loot with the right people. But it is not easy stealing from a ghost; you simply cannot get away as the ghost will forever haunt you.MANY Nigerians have been turned into ghosts by their elected representatives who steal the available meagre resources they would have survived on. The fact that these ghostly Nigerians are not yet in their graves does not make the consequence(s) less for these treasury-looting leaders. The ghosts they rob with impunity today may yet drag them into the pit of hell tomorrow, if they don't retrace their steps, just as Citizen X of Kazaure.
