Awesome' I love Kilimanjaro, but I'm not Mr. Rainbow

Published by Guardian on Tue, 27 Sep 2011

JOSHUA Awe popularly known as Joshua Awesome recently took the Nigeria name to a great height with the hoisting of its flag on Africa's highest mountain ' Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The Ekiti State-native attended Christ Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, before taking a course in Public Relations at the Institute of Public Relations. Presently, he is doing his Master's in Leadership and Communication in a South African University. The motivational speaker, human performance consultant and president of Awesome Associates is not resting on his oars, he has already begun preparations to climb Mount El'brus, Europe's highest mountain. The mountaineer tells DANIEL ANAZIA, what fashion is to him. What is your definition of fashion'It is being comfortable in whatever suits or sits well on your body. I'm not crazy about brands or logos, but quality. For me, fashion is using the right combination of colours, dressing smartly and smelling nice.Style essenceExcellence and passion; being passionate about what you are wearing is important. As much as I like to dress well and smell nice, I'm also passionate about what I wear.Favourite colour Blue ' it is the colour of the sky and also speaks of possibilities. Coming from my life coaching experience, I think people should dress in their favourite colour two or three times a week because it has a way of spurring you on.Favourite piece of clothing My white and black Ashley & Baker checkered suit by Above & Beyond, a Nigerian designer. I also love K-Wear for its creativity; you can unzip the knee area and wear it as a short.Favourite designerI love Above & Beyond for its creativity, but lately, I have also been looking at the Salvatore Ferragamo designs. Its 2011 Crono is nice and stands out among others. Most expensive fashion piece My Aviator set, I got to celebrate myself after summiting the Kilimanjaro. I can't remember the value for now, but it's pretty nice and affordable. What would you not be caught wearing'White shoes and red jeans pant. What would you consider as fashion faux pax'It's having five colours in just one dressing. I don't want to dress like I am the rainbow. How often do you improve on your wardrobe' With Ashley & Baker now, I would love it every 60-90 days. It doesn't mean everything must go, but some should make room for others. You need to give up to go up.Favourite signature perfumeAt some point I appreciated Givenchy, but the 24hour Sure works well for me.What would you consider sexy in both men and women'The smile and the confidence you radiate as a person makes you sexy. It should not be fake, let it come from within. What is on your shopping list for the month'Trekking shoe because I'm getting ready for my next expedition and some nice jeans pants as well as new set of TM Lewin shirts. Secret of your good look I grew up using Stella pomade, but right now, I don't have any... all na packaging. Favourite foodA couple of meals go well with me, but give me pounded yam with egusi soup. I don't joke with beans and plantain.Turn onPeople who are passionate about life and open to learning.Turn offI'm disgusted with people who tend to know it all. Learning is a continuous process and we all must be ready to learn.Craziest thing ever done Climbing the Kilimanjaro Mountain without an oxygen mask and exercising on Ikorodu Road facing the traffic.Choice travel/holiday destination I'm caught up between these two spots ' Cape Town, South Africa, and Madagascar. Cape Town rocks with a great ambience, but there is a tinny whinny interest that is developing for Madagascar. What would you like to change in Nigeria, if given the opportunity'Our orientation about life and crave for wealth, especially among the youths.Philosophy of lifeLife is a gift, treasure it today and do the best you can because you don't know what tomorrow holds.
