MDA 5: Winner Emerges Tonight

Published by Guardian on Tue, 27 Sep 2011

THE grand finale of the biggest and most anticipated dance reality show on television -the Maltina Dance All (MDA)Season 5 holds today at the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos. The champion will drive home a brand new family Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) worth close to N7 million in addition to a cash prize of N5 million while the first and second runners up will take home N1million and N500, 000 respectively. The MDA is sponsored by Maltina, a premium non-alcoholic malt brand from the stable of Nigerian Breweries Plc. After a rigorous and intensive competition process, five families: the Owolabi, Ekubo, Utogo, Dare and Ngwu families qualified for the grand finale. The race started on September 4, 2011 with ten families in the picture, however, five families were able to survive the various dance styles that were introduced in the MDA Academy ranging from Wazobia (contemporary Nigerian dances), Salsa, Pantomime, Paso-doble, Hip-hop and contemporary African dance. The Ekubo family, who has never been up for possible eviction in the academy and the Utogo family, were given automatic entry into the grand finale after their performance of the contemporary African dance style. It would be recalled that the Edoho, Ngwu and Owolabi families were put up for possible eviction after the Hip-Hop performance and Dare family was put up for possible eviction during the Contemporary African dance style. The three families had to come back the next day and give a double performance of the Hip-Hop and Contemporary African dance styles and prove to the judges that they had what it takes to join the two families for the grand finale.
