FERMA chairman assures Nigerians of improved roads

NEWLY appointed Chairman of the FederalEmergency Road Maintainace Agency(FERMA), Engineer Ezekiel Olajide Adeniji, appears to know his onions very well and is ready to put his engineering experience and exposure at work for the betterment of the nation.In a brief encounter with Tribune Tourism Magazine, the new FERMA chairman assured the nation that he would put everything humanly possible in place to make sure that Nigerians have access to good road.Engineer Adeniji said that the new team at FERMA, the board and management, had determined to work for the masses in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.'We are saddled with the big responsibility of maintaining roads which is critical to the profitable existence of commuters. We realised the import of this mission and we are going to pursue this mission with all our energy and intellectual capacity.'We are set up to maintain roads as an agency, but FERMA needs more than the money, the expertise and the earth moving implements to do this effectively, thus, it is necessary for us to form a synergy with the people, organisations and major stakeholders in order to do this well.'We at FERMA will collaborate and form synergy with major stakeholders. This is of great importance, as the stakeholders should understand what we are doing, why we are doing them and what is expected of them.'Engineer Adeniji added: 'You get better results when you consult and involve stakeholders in a project which is very paramount to their existence.'He said, 'that a good road network was the back bone of tourism. 'There is no way a country's tourism potentialities could flourish without good road networks. FERMA will partner with the NTDC, which is in charge of tourism, the FRSC which sees to safety on the road, the police, who maintain security, the Road Transport Workers who daily use the road and the big time haulage companies.
