Customs agents set to flush out touts

Nigerian freight forwarders will tomorrow begin a new attempt towards enhancing professionalism in its activities, as members strive to entrench new rules aimed at flushing out touts and fake clearing agents in cargo facilitation business.Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) chieftain, Alhaji Abdulazeez Babatunde, who disclosed this last week in Lagos also said the group would commence the newly issued biometric identification card to all its bona fide members.'Our association is set to use the occasion of the 2011 National Executive Council meeting to address some of the major challenges facing our members at the ports,' declared Babatunde, while speaking to newsmen on long term plans towards curbing the menace of unregistered agents in the ports.He lauded the nation's media practitioners for quality criticisms of the freight forwarders activities, noting that it was through this incisive remarks that operators had been forced to effect improvement and raise standards.Speaking in the same vein, the association's National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Obicee Okonkwo,stated that the group's NEC meeting slated to begin tomorrow was designed to ensure a positive turn around in the fortunes of ANCLA.
