Sanitation court convicts 45 offenders in Ebonyi

A sanitation court set up by the Ebonyi State Environmental Protection Agency has prosecuted 45 offenders for flouting the monthly clean-up order in the state.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the offenders, mostly youths, committed infringements ranging from loitering and travelling to engaging in various sporting activities within the period.They were sentenced to various jail terms from two to six months with options of fines ranging from N2,000 to N50, 000, depending on the gravity of the infringement.Mr Paul Okorie, Commissioner for Environment and Urban Development, noted that that this month's exercise was crucial as the state was preparing for major events next week.``We will be hosting Igbo leaders within the week for the Igbo Day celebration and also be celebrating the 51st and 15th anniversary of the country and the state respectively next weekend.'We want to ensure that the state, especially the capital, is kept clean to showcase its aesthetic nature to our visitors,' he said.
