Delta Queens dedicates Super Six trophy to UduaghanAFTER seven days of competition, a winner emerged at the weekend in the 2011 Female Super Six competition as Delta Queens snatched the title from Rivers Angels on the last day of the championship. However, players and officials of the six participating clubs left Abuja disappointed with the alleged lip service being paid female football in the country. Those who spoke with The Guardian at the end of the competition regretted that the Aminu Maigari-led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was not doing anything to save the game from total collapse.More disappointing to the players and their officials was the fact that throughout the duration of the competition, 'not a press release' was issued by the NFF, unlike at the just concluded Federation Cup in Lagos, which was on pages of national dailies everyday courtesy of 'frequent press releases' from the NFF.'If the NFF does not want female football to exist in this country anymore, they should come forward and tell Nigerians instead of this rubbish they are doing,' one of the aggrieved persons said. 'Can you imagine six best clubs in this country were in Abuja for the Super Six competition for one week and the NFF did not show any concern''But when it was the turn of the Federation Cup, virtually all of them trooped to Lagos because they know that money had been made available from the Office of Governor Babatunde Fashola. Everyday there must be one press release from the NFF concerning the Federation Cup in Lagos. God is seeing them.'Until the final day of the competition, it was looking the way of Rivers Angels, which had 12 points as against Delta Queens' 10 points. But a lone strike by Super Falcons' Desire Oparanozie for Delta Queens ended Rivers' title hope. The Asaba girls ended the race with 13 points, Rivers Angels 12 and Pelican Stars of Calabar seven.Meanwhile, Delta Queens has dedicated the Super Six crown to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, who they described as a great motivator. They equally praised the chairman of the Delta Sports Commission, Amaju Pinnick, for ensuring that the club remained the leading female team in the country.Delta Queens won the 2004 edition in Umuahia, Abia State, as well as the 2008 and 2009 editions, while the 2010 edition did not hold due to an alleged poor planning by the NFF.
