Eguavoen, Iroha upbeat on Olympics ticket

Published by Tribune on Thu, 29 Sep 2011

CHIEF coach of Nigeria's U-23 national side Dream Team V, Austin Eguavoen is cocksure the team will qualify for the 2011 London 2012 Olympics even though he admitted that the team is in a tough group.Speaking in Lagos last weekend, the former Insurance of Benin Manager explained that pitching the team with tough sides like Morocco, Algeria and Senegal was a big task but expressed optimism that the team will scale the hurdle."It no doubt a difficult group when you look at the teams, Morocco, Algeria and Senegal are no pushovers in African football but we will be ready for them." We have a duty to ensure that Nigeria participates in the Olympics having missed the ticket to the All Africa Games and we have resolved to make up for that with the London 2012 ticket,'' said the ex- Super Eagles handler.Speaking in the same vein, assistant coach Ben Iroha said both the officials and players of the Dream Team are aware of the task before them and were not ready to disappoint Nigerian again after failing to qualify for the recently concluded All Africa Ganes in Maputo, Mozambique.''The task may be difficult, but we are left with no other option than to qualify for the Olympics and we will be well prepared for the competition in Egypt, as we are thinking about our opponents, they are also thinking about us. All we need to do is to prepare well for the tournament,'' the former Iwuanyanwu Nationale defender stated.
