Why Senate has not passed PIB - Mark

Senate President, David Mark, onWednesday, disclosed the reason the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) has not been passed at the Senate, saying that some interest groups, which circulated three different versions of the bill, confused the sixth Senate.Mark, who spoke during the inauguration the Senate Committee on Petroleum (down stream), said despite the fact that the bill went through all legislative procedures at the two chambers of the National Assembly, it failed to scale through the remaining hurdles to become law.According to him, 'the problem with the PIB was that when it showed up, there were so many versions. As many as three or four versions were in the hands of senators and members of the House of Representatives.'Explaining the necessity of the bill, Mark said 'it was necessary, saying that 'the PIB is like the Bible for the industry and if we are to build the sector, we have to get the bill off the ground and this is why it is necessary for cooperation between the legislative and the executive.'The Senate president charged the committee to ensure that the PIB was worked upon as soon as possible and all problems associated with the bill resolved, so that the seventh National Assembly could pass it into law without further delay.Senator Magnus Abe, the chairman of the committee, informed the Senate president that he was aware of the circumstances surrounding the PIB and assured that the committee would reach out to all stakeholders to ensure that the copy that would be presented would be only one version that would tackle all the problems in the sector.Also at the inauguration of the Committee on Employment and labour, headed by Wilson Ake, Mark, in reference to the ongoing strike by university lecturers, said when government failed to keep agreement with labour leaders, workers would feel agitated.He insisted that dialogue still remained the only solution to resolve labour matters, saying that
