Group petitions Jonathan, Mark over Abia NDDC nominee

Published by Tribune on Fri, 30 Sep 2011

A group calledUkwa WestGrassroots Forum, on Thursday, petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan and the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, alleging attempts by some other groups to stop the nomination of the Abia State representative in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).The Ukwa West Youth Assembly had, on Wednesday, forwarded a petition to the president and Senator Mark, in which it descried what it called moves to re-nominate Mr Alloy Nwagboso as the representative of Abia State on the board of NDDC.But the Ukwa West Grassroots Forum said in its own petition on the same matter that the Assembly was merely out to tarnish the image of Nwagboso, whose record of service was attested to by the Abia State House of Assembly through a resolution in 2009.The group stated that all cases instituted against Nwagboso, being trumpetted by the other youth assembly, had been struck out for want of evidence by the same court. The group asked that president and Senator Mark to discountenance the petitions against Nwagboso, saying that the moves were desperate attempts to blackmail the youngman. The statement signed by the porum's president-general, Chief David Wogu and publicity secretary, Mr Onyedi Magnus, read in part: "We, members of the Ukwa West Grassroots Forum, the umbrella group of all youth groups in the local government, wish to put on record that the said publication is only aimed at tarnishing the good name of Barrister Nwagboso, whose records of service have shown excellent conformity with required decorum and decency in public service.
