NDDC plans new jobs through empowerment of entrepreneurs

THE Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Osato Arenyeka, said new jobs will be created through the empowerment of entrepreneurs in the Niger Delta.Arenyeka made the remark during an entrepreneurship training and capacity building programme for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Warri.The wealth creation programme is designed to train entrepreneurs on ways to achieve success in their businesses, thus creating jobs in the region.The acting managing director said the empowerment programme was borne out of the requirements of the Niger Delta Regional Development Master Plan to support the MSMEs sector of the economy.'This programme will provide entrepreneurs with tools, practical knowledge and skills that would address the challenges and guide their business processes on a daily basis.'It will also enable entrepreneurs to add impetus to the socio-economic advancement of the region.''Arenyeka said the commission would train 1,000 entrepreneurs drawn from all the nine states in the zone during the first phase of the programme.According to her, the programme will enable entrepreneurs to gain access to business development services, increase access to finance and move them from micro to small enterprises.'These are our expectations but they can only be realised with the active participation of all of you.'A participant, Henry Sibete, said the programme would equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills needed to run effective SMEs that would boost employment.'This scheme gives us the opportunity to expand our businesses. This success growth will enable us to employ youths, as will in turn boost the Niger Delta economy,' he said.
