We will drive sports through schools in Lagos, Oshodi assures

LAGOS State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, has assured that sports would be driven through schools in the state.The commissioner told The Guardian that efforts were in top gear to commence 12 events monthly in different sports, with schools as the platform. He said: 'School sports is where a nation derives its athletes from and the focus of this government is schools and grassroots sports.'We will take sports to all corners of Lagos and we can only drive this through the schools. We have over a thousand schools in Lagos and they have to be the cornerstones of our development. We will be working with the teachers and games masters and will also be training them where necessary to help us in discovering athletes.'You cannot have enough scouts: these school masters will serve as scouts and assist our coaches in bringing things on board. We intend to run 12 events every month in different sports and schools will be the corner piece of that programme.'The sponsors are waiting and are there with lots of offers on what they are willing to do with us and events they are willing to sponsor. So, we are just putting our house in order and from the end of October, things will start showing again in Lagos.
