FOR the members of National University Commission (NUC) and all resource persons who were at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) on a two-day inspection of facilities towards the take-off of School Medicine and Health Sciences and Geology, it was all commendation for the private institution for the its development which they described as 'unprecedented' in Nigeria.Commenting on the facilities of the varsity, the Provost of College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba said the development in the varsity was astonishing.According to him 'What we saw in ABUAD was surprising. Even the Federal Government could not have done better within this short period of existence of the university.'The professor, who's a member of the NUC team that were on inspection of the facilities, made the statement at the palace of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, during a courtesy call on the monarch at the weekend.Part of the facilities inspected at the college of medicine complex included more than ultra modern laboratories which were described as the best in the country. In his reaction to the accreditation of the new courses, Oba Adejugbe stated that the facilities on ground would accommodate all the necessary requirements of the commission to kick-off the courses at ABUAD.Emphasizing on the determination of the founder of the varsity to develop education in the state and in the country at large, the monarch stated that 'anything he(Aare Afe Babalola) does is always the best. His farm is one of the best. He's hardworking, unassuming. He's a lover of this environment that's why he built the varsity here.'He assured that the NUC team would not regret ever granting the university the accreditation of the new courses, stating that the accreditation would be one of the giant strides ever taken by the commission.According to Oba adejugbe, 'the varsity is about the best in the whole of Africa. It's a miracle because of the rate of development on the campus. On the campus, students receive lectures everywhere. I know you will give us the certificate. You will not regret you did. FMC has provided what we don't have. By the time you come in the next five years, we would have had our own hospital at ABUAD.'Appealing to philanthropists in the country to replicate what Aare Afe Babalola has done, not necessarily education sector. He observed that a lot of graduates were in the streets without jobs, noting that lack of jobs was responsible for youths participation in violent incidents in the country.'It's not easy for one to put one's all life savings in one place. Some would put them in banks to get more interests. ABUAD is a nonprofit institution and it is capital intensive. We want more Afes in this country. Those who God had blessed should help this country, especially in providing jobs for the youths. Annually, we produce more graduates, but no one is talking about where they would work. This is a challenge to us all,' the monarch said.
