Suzuki Swift gets freshstyle,aerodynamic innovations

Published by Guardian on Sat, 01 Oct 2011

SUZUKI has unveiled a new range-topping version of its swift super mini at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Swift Sport is a junior hot hatch designed to offer more driving thrills without sacrificing practicality or running costs. On the outside there is a larger front grille, bigger alloy wheels and a subtle body kit to enhance its looks as well as offer reduced aerodynamic lift. Inside there are sports seats unique to this model, smarter trim and a five-dial instrument cluster.Under the bonnet the Swift Sport uses the same 1.6-litre petrol engine as in the outgoing model, but thanks to the addition of a variable intake system and revisions to the valve operation both power and torque are up by around 10 per cent, while fuel economy and emission are significantly improved.Substantial changes to the suspension set up also promise sharp handling and fun driving dynamics.Available information explained that the next generation 2011 Suzuki Swift is fortified with a smoother dash, a built in retractable screen, automatic climate control, Bluetooth, and a USB port. The car, which will be sold in some markets as both a three-door and five-door, will have more ventilation than the previous model, as well as keyless ignition and a new selection of sport cloth for the interior. The four-cylinder 16-valve petrol unit produces 93 horsepower (69 kW / 94 PS) and up to 118 Nm (87 ft-lb) of torque. Alternatively, the direct injection diesel, also a 16V four-banger, produces 74 horsepower (55 kW / 75 PS) and up to 190 Nm (140 ft-lb) of torque. Petrol buyers get a choice between a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic, while the diesel only comes with the manual.Suzuki Australian General Manager, Mr. Tony Devers said: 'We are very excited about the release of information for the new European Swift, but we are still some way off finalising the Australian version.'The new Swift won't go on sale here until the first half of next year, and we are still finalising local specification levels.'The current Swift set new standards in performance and styling, earning it 63 Car of the Year awards around the world and took the car to sales of one million units faster than any other model in the company's 100-year history.'New Swift will realise even higher levels of performance and styling, in tandem with superior fuel economy and environmental performance,' said Devers. The 3,850-millimetre long car is 1,695-mm wide and 1,510-mm high (151.57' x 66.73' x 59.45'), and has a wheelbase of 2,430 mm (95.67'). This means the car is 2.5-percent longer, with a 40-mm longer wheelbase, providing both more legroom and more cargo space.
