Two Killed, As Boko Haram Attacks JTF Patrol Vehicle

TWO suspected Boko Haram sect members attacked a vehicle of the Joint Task Force (JTF) by throwing an explosive device while the soldiers patrolled and distributed food in the Ngarnam ward of Maiduguri metropolis.The bomb exploded at the scene of a wedding ceremony, killing two civilians.Members of the task force and the targeted vehicle were, however, not injuredor damaged by the blast, which rocked the area, sending residentsscampering for their lives.Spokesman for the JTF, Lt. Col. Hassan Mohammed, confirmed the blast, but did not give details of any casualties on either the JTF patrol team or residents of Ngarnam.He said: 'I heard the bomb blast in the morning, but I am yet to get details to give you on whether or not there were casualties from theblast.'A resident, who attended the wedding ceremony in the ward, told The Guardian that two civilians were hit by the blast, which ripped off their limbs, resulting in death.'I was there, when the bomb exploded this morning, when two suspected bombers targeted the JFT patrol vehicle that was distributing food to soldiers on patrol. But the bomb missed both thevehicle and its occupants', said the residentHe continued: 'The blast was thunderous and seconds after the explosion, the whole area, including the venue of the wedding, were covered with dust, as people scampered for safety.Sporadic gunshotsensued for several minutes, before we returned from a nearby building where we had fled for cover, to the venue of wedding and saw two bodies of civilians on the ground.'He said the blast was the first of its kind, after five weeks of non-bombing of any of the wards in Maiduguri metropolis.
