Nigeria @ 51: Past leaders not fair to Nigerians ' Ekiti Speaker

The Speaker of EkitiState House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, has said past Nigerian leaders have not been fair to the citizenry, while he challenged Nigerians to, henceforth, elect leaders who will take decisions based on the protection of their interest.Omirin, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Wole Olujobi, said so far, majority of Nigerians had little to celebrate, in terms of landmarks after 51 years of independence, saying that past leadership should be blamed for the setback.The statement, which also congratulates Ekiti State at 15, lamented that the system in the past had not been fair to the Nigerian masses and called on the leaders to change for the better.The speaker condemned the controversy over removal of oil subsidy, saying that after 51 years as a nation, Nigerians should not have been subjected to the inconveniencies of fuel importations or subsidy removal, adding that this would have been avoidable if past leaders had played their roles.'After 51 years, virtually all sectors, including education, health, road, water supply and security have been in comatose. It is regrett able that the system is not working. What we need in the country today is the leadership that understands our plights and which is ready to work to put the country on track,' Omirin said.
