Oyo deputy gov urges residents to adhere to town planning rules

Oyo State deputygovernor, ChiefMoses Adeyemo, has called on the inhabitants of the state to adhere to town planning rules and regulations, just as he urged them to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse in streams and river banks in order to prevent future flood disaster in the state.ChiefAdeyemo made the call while receiving relief items donated to the state government in support of the flood victims disaster which ravaged the city of Ibadan recently by the management of Industrial and General Insurance (IGI) Plc, held at the Governor's Office, Secretariat, Ibadan.A release signed by his Special Assistant, Media, Mr Sola Adegoke, the deputy-governnor, described the recent flood disaster in Ibadan as a national tragedy.He said that the task of ensuring a flood free society was a joint responsibility of all and sundry, noting that, 'many of the houses affected by the flood were built on river banks, thus, obstructing free flow of water and its attendant deadly consequences during rainy season.'As part of its efforts to prevent future flood, Chief Adeyemo disclosed that the state government had declared every Thursday of the week as environmental sanitation day, advising the people of the state to always obey sanitary laws, as well as rules and regulations guiding physical development of the state.He explained that the state government had rehabilitated the victims through the various relief centres which were opened across Ibadanland immediately the incident happened.He expressed appreciation to the management of IGI for the kind gesture, promising that the items donated would be properly utilised for the benefit of those who suffered losses during the flood.Speaking earlier, the IGI delegation led by its Executive Director, Finance and Investment, Mr Yinka Obalade who represented the Group's Executive Vice Chairman, Mr Remi Olowude lamented the gruesome extent of the destruction, saying that 'it was a tragedy too many.
