MacJef FC wins Samsung Cup, Obuh hails organisers

MACJEF Football Club and Port Harcourt City Football Club gave a good account of themselves in the final of the maiden edition of Samsung Cup played at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt.After a pulsating encounter, the match had to be settled through penalty shootout, at the end of which Macjef carried the day with a 5-4 victory to lift the trophy. Also, Flying Eagles' coach, John Obuh, lauded the teams and organisers for making the competition worthwhile.In his remarks, the Commissioner for Sports, Rivers State, Fred Igwe, commended Samsung for staging the tournament, saying: 'We supported this tournament because it is a great initiative. No electronic company in Nigeria has sponsored a tournament. Samsung has done something great. Samsung kept the boys in Port Harcourt city busy for a full week. I am happy about the outcome of the tournament.'Young and energetic Cijey Mikel of Legend Football Club won the highest goalscorer award, as he came out shining with his team despite its third place match defeat to bitter rival Bethlehem Football Club.Obuh, in his message to the sponsor of the competition at the venue, commended the players for the great display of talent and thanked Samsung for investing huge human and financial resources in promoting football in Nigeria.
